Full Time - Experienced
Develop and implement media outreach and strategic communications programs that support the policy goals of BIO’s Industrial & Environmental and Food & Agriculture Sections. Help position BIO as the leading voice on biotechnology’s applications in the industrial & environmental, and food & ag industries.
Specifically, the Director will work with the rest of the Ag & Environment Communications team to develop and implement proactive media plans around key issues; draft news releases, talking points, issue briefs and content for web-based properties; manage relationships with BIO member companies and stakeholder allies; and provide strategic communications and media support for BIO events and meetings.
Design and implement strategic communications programs that support the policy and branding goals of BIO’s Industrial & Environmental and Food & Agriculture Sections.
Develop and maintain relationships with press who cover industrial, environmental, food and agriculture biotechnology issues.
Act as spokesperson for BIO and the biotechnology industry in media interviews.
Build awareness of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) as the leading U.S. voice for biotechnology issues in the areas of industrial, environmental, food and agriculture.
Anticipate potential trigger events for the media and develop and implement proactive and response plans as necessary.
Develop collateral materials including news releases, statements, talking points, issue briefs, newsletter articles, letters to the editor, op-ed pieces and other communication tools.
In coordination with BIO communications staff, draft blogs and other web-based media content for BIO’s online communications platforms.
Coordinate BIO communications initiatives with coalitions, allied associations and other key stakeholders, and consulting teams on behalf of the Industrial & Environmental section.
Serve as senior point person for the Industrial & Environmental Section’s Communications Advisory Group.
Provide strategic communications and media relations support for BIO’s World Congress for Industrial Biotechnology, BIO’s International Convention and other conferences and events as needed.
Utilize events to advance messaging and other communications goals of BIO’s Industrial & Environmental and Food & Ag sections.
Must have extensive record of success in designing and implementing strategic communications and media relations campaigns.
Experience with industrial, environmental, food and ag-related biotechnology policy issues a plus.
Must demonstrate excellent writing and editing skills.
A solid understanding of the legislative and regulatory policy processes a plus.
Must be a driven self-starter who is able to work within a team environment.
Bachelor of Arts, advanced degree preferable
8+ years experience in strategic communications and media relations.
Experience in policy communications required and government relations a plus.
