Chief Executive Officer - Texas Restaurant Association
Legacy Leader Retires Richie Jackson has been the CEO of TRA since 1985, when his leadership, background and advocacy experience were sought to grow the association and lead in a rapidly changing environment, both politically and economically. During his 33 years in the role, he grew the organization’s influence, lead tax reform, implemented insurance programs, launched new education and training programs, expanded the association and drove many community impact initiatives. He created the Association's Metro offices, made insightful and lucrative real estate transactions, and shepherded the passage of more than 60 bills in 23 sessions of state legislature. Further, he established the TRAEF which now provides culinary education and career paths to tens of thousands of students across the state. He is widely respected for his vision, ability to influence and hard work to build and grow the industry in Texas.
Nationally, the industry landscape has dramatically changed over the past few decades. Restaurant sales have exploded from $40 billion to more than $700 billion. Richie helped business owners in the state deal with the challenges related to this growth to keep their businesses strong, as well as people all over the state to pursue rewarding careers in the industry.
As the Association and its members look to the future, it is clear that more change is coming. By 2020, the NRA expects total restaurant industry sales to top $850 billion, capturing 50% of every food dollar and providing jobs to nearly 15 million people in the country. To meet these challenges in Texas, TRA seeks another exceptional leader who has the experience to proactively lead and passion to engage the association’s many stakeholders. There will be the continuing need to advocate on behalf of members and the industry, enrich and align the value proposition, consider new models of membership and uses of technology, broaden and support education programs, and attract new generations. Even more importantly, the new CEO will need the grace and wisdom to follow the legacy of an admired and long-tenured leader while ushering in a new era fostering teamwork in Texas to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
