The Securities Transfer Association, (“STA”), is an industry trade association whose members are transfer agents and companies that provide goods and services to transfer agents. Founded in 1911, the STA represents more than 130 commercial stock transfer agents, bond agents, mutual fund agents, and related service providers within the United States and Canada. Collectively, STA members serve as transfer agents for publicly traded corporations, providing record keeping and other services to approximately 15,000 companies which include, mutual fund investment companies, and corporate issuers servicing more than 100 million shareholders. The STA represents its members in dialogue with regulators, while providing information and education for members on new or changing regulations that will impact their business, and establishing guidelines allowing effective exchanges of data between transfer agents and other industry participants. It also works with other industry groups, including the Depository Trust Company, FINRA and NYSE/Euronext.
The Executive Director is the lead administrative officer of the organization and responsible for executing the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors and achievement of STA’s mission, programs, administration and financial objectives.
This is a remote virtual position but preference is given to individuals who are prepared to work Eastern Time Zone hours. STA offers a competitive base salary, bonus potential and paid vacation.
Serve as the STA official spokesperson and liaison to regulatory entities and other industry stakeholders such as the SEC, IRS, SIFMA and DTCC.
Oversee, facilitate, and/or coordinate the activities, progress and responsibilities of all STA Committees, and any other STA associated projects, providing notes and information to the Board as required.
Be a focal point for communication of industry issues in the public domain through direct communication with other industry participants, as well as coordinate communication through STA Board or other members. Management and coordination of STA comment letters on SEC Proposed Rules.
Oversee activities of other STA employees and any contractors engaged by the Board.
Respond to telephone and email inquiries from members, guarantors and the investing public.
Oversee STA risk management activities and contracts with outside parties.
Deliver information and training to members through periodic webinars.
Oversee annual tax filing.
Manager the collection of annual dues from members.
Set agendas and facilitate Board meetings along with the President.
Set agendas and facilitate monthly Executive Committee meetings.
Identify speakers and provide logistical support for STA quarterly meetings.
Create STA Annual Conference Program and assist with all logistics, including interfacing with speakers.
Assist with the development and framing of STA issues, working with various groups to reach agreement when different members bring conflicting perspectives.
Serve as the de facto editor of the STA Newsletter, soliciting content and writing articles as required.
Oversee the STA website to ensure that content remains current and appropriate items are added. Coordinate updates with the vendor who manages and hosts the site.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Ten years of senior management experience, preferably as an Executive Director with a professional association.
General knowledge of the financial services industry (especially securities related knowledge) is required, as well as an ability to work and effectively communicate with individuals in the financial services community.
Experience with association governance, including board and committee relations, volunteer management, organizational planning and program development.
Energetic and pro-active self-starter; takes initiative, is flexible and collaborative.
Excellent judgment, a problem solver and results oriented
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with volunteers,
Ability to function at both a strategic and tactical level, with a high level of business acumen.
Travel is required.
