The Strategic Management Society, the premier association dedicated to the strategic management field and serving a mostly scholarly, international constituency, is seeking a Senior Program Manager. This is a mid-level position whose primary function is to manage academic conference events and to support membership acquisition, retention, and renewal.
Preferred candidates will be functional experts responsible for the planning, staffing, and execution of programs and/or events, ideally with experience in an academic environment, and with a strategic understanding of how to engage members in meaningful ways as involved members and volunteers.
Manage the planning and execution of the SMS Annual Conference including sourcing, contracting, and logistics for the conference venue and social events
Facilitate the development of the conference program and coordinate activities, events, and budgets with multiple academic members who are the volunteer leaders within the organization
Deliver a consistent look and feel for all SMS annual and special conferences, ensuring that the SMS experience is delivered with intent and high quality
Monitor and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to determine event successes, best practices, and potential improvements
Lead efforts around services, materials, and programs relating to retention of current members and acquisition of new members
Manage membership renewal, retention, and promotional campaigns in coordination with other SMS colleagues
Cooperate in the coordination and development of content for digital and print SMS member publications, including E-Bulletins, E-Alerts, newsletters and annual reports
Maintain and assist in further development of membership database; identify process improvements and cooperate with software developers to implement enhancements
Work as part of a team to enhance the effectiveness of services and to support the organizational mission
This position is full time and will include a full benefits package including 24 days of paid vacation.
Travel: Three to five times a year to domestic and international locations.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree, 5-7 years of relevant work experience planning premier events for top-level executives and administrators, preferably in an academic and/or non-profit environment
Outstanding organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills. A demonstrated commitment to quality and excellence
Experience with inter-cultural communication and ability to perform in diverse cultures and business environments
Ability to effectively establish relationships and cooperate on projects with a diverse group of volunteers and to communicate with internationally renowned scholars, consultants, and business practitioners
Familiarity with database management, website content management, and the professional use of social media platforms
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.
